Sustainability

Tons of CO2 savings per year
Electric charging stations in our courtyards
At GSG Berlin, we are committed to contributing to the climate protection goals in line with the Paris Agreement, EU legislation and the Energy Transition Act. Our company endorses and supports all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. By advocating and supporting an environmentally-friendly and sustainable future, we work together with our partners and tenants towards achieving these global goals.

What we have achieved so far
- From 2030 onwards: The CPI Property Group (parent company of GSG Berlin) will fulfill the High Level Energy Strategy, resulting in a CO2 reduction of 32.4% compared to 2019
- 2022: 100% green electricity in our courtyards
- 2021: Implementation of the first combined heat and power plants and production of cooling from waste heat
- 2020: Progressive expansion of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles
- 2017: Low CO2 district heating/urban heating in several courtyards
- 2014: Use of electricity generated decentral through own PV systems
- 2012: Implementation of combined heat and power plants in the first GSG courtyards
Groundbreaking and smart. Every day.
Energy efficiency and environmentally friendly energy supply are highly valued at GSG Berlin. We make an important contribution to achieving the Berlin target of “climate neutrality by 2045”. To this end, we operate the largest photovoltaic system in Berlin, our own cogeneration units, absorption chillers, and we are expanding the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles at our GSG properties.
Our sustainable operation strategy plan aims to identify and implement opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The main pillars of this strategy are improving operational efficiency, modernizing building systems by using as many renewable and sustainable sources as possible, and involving our users. Together, we strive for environmentally conscious and future-oriented business practices.

Electric charging stations
By offering the possibility to charge electric vehicles at our locations, our tenants are even more flexible in their daily lives and don’t have to worry about finding charging options. Join our community and benefit from the advantages that our electric charging stations offer at a growing number of our commercial properties. Or become a tenant of GSG Berlin and switch to an electric vehicle to enjoy a convenient charging experience at our commercial properties.
Solar power
We stand for innovative commercial spaces that prioritize sustainability and environmentally friendly energy. With our impressive photovoltaic system, the largest in Berlin, we generate clean energy for our tenants and thus contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions. As part of our community, you are not only a pioneer for a sustainable future, but also directly benefit from the energy produced by our photovoltaic system.

Combined Heat and Power Plants
We rely on innovative and environmentally friendly energy solutions such as combined heat and power (CHP) plants, also known as cogeneration plants, to enable you and your company to have a sustainable future. CHP plants are efficient, decentralized systems for simultaneous generation of electricity and heat, operated through cogeneration. This process utilizes the waste heat generated during electricity production instead of leaving it unused, leading to higher energy efficiency.
Thanks to our four own CHP plants at our GSG properties in Geneststraße, Zossener Straße, Waldemarstraße, and Gneisenaustraße, we save an impressive 780 tons of CO₂ annually. In the Gebauer Höfe, we achieve an excellent primary energy factor (PEF) of 0.45 for the supply of cooling and heating, through the use of a CHP plant in combination with a heating boiler and two absorption chillers. Together, we are creating an environmentally conscious and energy-efficient future.

Tree planting
We actively contribute to environmental protection through tree planting initiatives that help to compensate for CO₂ emissions and protect the climate. In collaboration with Treedom, we support socio-ecological tree planting projects for small farmers in Cameroon. Our GSG forest not only contributes to CO₂ sequestration but also promotes sustainable development in the region. By taking local and global responsibility, we emphasize our commitment to a sustainable future and help improve the living conditions of people on the ground. Together with you, we are committed to environmental protection and social sustainability.

Electric charging stations
In cooperation with the Berlin-based company Parkstrom, we have installed charging stations for electric cars at various locations. These charging stations are supplied with 100% regeneratively generated electricity.

The largest photovoltaic system in Berlin
We at GSG Berlin are proud to have installed the largest solar system in Berlin in 2014. The power output of our system is currently 5.75 MWp, allowing us to save around 2,000 tons of CO2 annually. To achieve the same amount of CO2 savings, the city would need to plant 154,000 new trees.
Our solar panels can be found on the rooftops of 26 GSG commercial properties in Charlottenburg, Kreuzberg, Lichtenberg, Marienfelde, Marzahn, Pankow, Tempelhof, and Wedding. A total of 23,147 solar modules from German manufacturers were installed on an area of approximately 39,300 square meters. The PV system produces up to 5 million kWh of electricity annually.

Our Forest – Plant with Us
We at GSG Berlin support socio-ecological tree plantations and help small farmers in Cameroon. In addition to carbon sequestration, we make an important contribution to sustainable development in the region through the planting of our GSG forest. Our commitment shows that we are not only committed to environmental protection locally, but also globally and are dedicated to social responsibility.
